Corey's Cat

Here is an edit on Corey's cat.  Notice the sculpted light on the face, the vertical composition using the rule of thirds (the eyes are 1/3 down from the top of the frame and not in the middle), the close in framing, the calm, quiet expression (I know, cats are good at that, people, not so much unless you direct them).  Can you use this as a template to do a person't portrait?
