Week 2 Favorite Shots

Hello again, since I am in the Photo 2 class my assignment is a bit different then the rest of you.  I will be shooting the same subject throughout the entire class.  I have chosen newborn photography since I have a 3 week old at home.  Here are my favorite shots from this week.  Enjoy!

Hello!!!!

Heyy Everyone,

My name is Frank Lyon.  I have recently graduated from Albertus and needed to take a few summer classes in order to reach 150 credits.  I chose this class because it seemed interesting and because it was online so it was flexible with my schedule.  I am currently looking for a full-time job and I feel since I majored in communications that this class will help me.  Personally, I don't have too much experience with photography but I look forward to sharpening my skills and learning from Professor Nevins.  The camera I have to work with for now is a Kodak EasyShare MD853.  I hope to upgrade soon and improve the quality of my photos.

Week 2: Shooting the built environment

The idea this week is to go shooting in a town or city... shoot where you live...it doesn't have to be New Haven.  Use the buildings as a vessel for design and capturing light.  Move in close, fill the frame... no pictures of whole buildings from across the street, unless the light and design is particularly good... here are a few good examples:

Yale gate... see how the focal point and source of light come together?

Yale School of Management... see the light and design?  Where is the focal point? Where is the light?  See the symmetry and the way the photographer aligned his/her body?

Nice reflection, filling the frame... downtown New Haven...

I found these doing an image search in Google images using the search term, "New Haven"

Art and Architecture bldg, corner of Chapel and York.... Strong palnes of light and shadow converted to B and W...

Get the idea?

Self Portrait

Hello! My name is Corey and I am really looking forward to taking this course. My fiance is a photographer and I would love to some day assist him as a second shooter. Up until now I have only helped with lighting. Although I enjoy my day job working with students, there is something awesome about taking an amazing photo. In addition to gaining technical skills in this course, I hope to foster my creative eye. My self portrait was taken at Gouveia Vineyards in Wallingford using a tripod and self-timer.

Hey!

Hey!

My name is Christina and I will be a senior after summer ends. I am a promotional communication major, and I will be graduating next May (finally!); I'm crazy excited about it.  I love to mess with pictures that I have taken and/or others have taken, so here I am.  I love to take pictures as well and can't wait to learn new techniques in this class.

A better composition

I like Jason's interesting filter treatment as well as the direction and quality of the light.. Here is a stronger composition of the head in the frame... Normally I don't recommend cropping as a way to achieve your intention but rather to shoot it this way the first time...

Notice the placement... off center, with the side of the face with the light centered as the focal point... the space over the top of the head was removed...
