The first is of a fig tree leaf, and the second is a puddle that formed underneath our boat as it was getting cleaned off after a trip out in the ocean. I also threw in my daughter's father's day present to her dad that I took a few weeks back. I thought it captured shadows nicely, and we were both very proud of how it turned out!
Here is our online classroom for Digital Photography I and II. Post your best work from the weeks assignment and put the balance on your fotothing portfolio. Support your classmates by commenting on their work. Above all, have fun!

Week Four - Lights and Shadow
I went shooting around my backyard at different times of the day, and here are the pics that I feel came out the strongest....

Week 4
For this weeks assignment I steered away from structures and defined
lines and tried to capture light and shadows in nature. I revisited the same
place at various times of the day and on different days so there was a
difference in the sunlight shining through the treetops. These are two of my
favorite pictures from this week and the rest are posted on my fotothing page.

Hand Suggestion
Nice and close Corey!
Along with my comments about what we include in a shot should contribute to the strength of the image, I also like to ask the question about color vs. black and white. Does using color add to the shot, in other words, is the photograph about color? If not, would a black and white treatment be stronger, allowing us to concentrate on pure form and value instead?
See how the color shot of the hand has a blue cast and how the color of the skin doesn't bring much to the party? I did a straight conversion to b and w and darkened or vignetted the outside to help create a focal point in the center of the hand?

Week 4
After giving some thought to what was worth shooting, I enjoy the images that I took. I struggled a bit with lighting and getting my settings right for each new location that I chose. Below are my two favorites. The first is of my fiance's hand. I originally wanted to take a photo of the tattoo on his wrist, but found the lines in his hand to be more interesting. The second photo is of an onion with some serious character!! I love the photo so much I may print it for my kitchen. Hope you enjoy them!

Week 4 Christina
Hi Christina,
Here's a little editing on your hydrant shot... I made the horizon parallel with the horizon and the hydrant parallel to the vertical side... I also added some saturation...It's the little things that really bring an image home...

Light and Shadow
Here are two shots from this week that I thought were strong. I was tempted to shoot all in black in white, with the light and shadows as subjects, but I was surprised that I liked these color shots the best.
The rest are on my fotothing account: sdmurphy

Week Four
I found this assignment to be more difficult than the others. I plan to practice more of the light/shadow shots, but for now, here are two of my favorites. The rest can be seen on my Fotothing website. Thanks!

The Beach
These are two of my favorite pictures from this week at the beach. The picture on the left is one of many that I shot through a crevasse in-between two rocks close to the water. It might possibly be my favorite picture that I have ever taken and I have 3-4 different pictures of it. This week was challenging only because my job requires me to work in the afternoon. When the sun is setting would have been my ideal time that I would have liked to have gone to the beach to shoot these pictures. Hopefully I can go back soon to take more under different lighting.
Unfortunately when uploading this week's pictures onto fotothing the vertical pictures did not upload vertical, so I apologize for anyone that has to strain their neck to view them!
Beach Week
Below are my two favorite photos from our beach week. I find myself wanting to take larger, more portrait photos at such beautiful locations, such as the beach. Once I realized I was veering off from the original assignment, I brought myself back down to close-up shots with good detail. I hope you like them!

Hello Class!
Hello class! Sorry I'm so late to start blogging (lost my USB cord for my camera) long story short I'm here and have been out shooting while not being able to upload.
My name is Erin Dudley and I'm going into my senior year at Albertus. I am a Studio Art major and a teaching candidate in the Education department. Photography is one of my favorite forms of art whether it's film or digital. This is my first digital photography class but I have been shooting with my digital camera for years, along with numerous classes in film photography. I loved shooting in black and white and am excited to finally be able to shoot in color, especially all those pretty flowers! I have a Sony Cyber-shot 12.1 megapixels and have been using to for about 5 years now and plan to hopefully upgrade to a new camera later this year.

Beach Week
My pictures this week are taken from Short Beach in Branford. Living by the beach is an amazing thing, sunny days are that much more beautiful by the ocean. I have spent the last six or seven summers laying on the beach and enjoying the wonderful views and weather. This weeks topic for photographs was a really enjoyable time for me and really hit home.

One Month Old
This week Jordan turned a month old. Already!! I feel like the time is flying. I bought stickers that I can put on his onsie to take pictures every month. I took many pictures with the sticker, but I think this one is the strongest.
