Third Time's A Charm

Ok. Hopefully I have got it right! I photographed my sister last night in my condo. I used nature light coming in from a window, positioned myself along the window and shot directly onto her. I think the photos came out well and the natural light definitely adds a nice dimension to the photos. I will post more of my shooting around final week shots later today.

  1. Not quite.. :)

I'm trying to get you to model the face with 3D light. Using the light straight on flattens the face and makes it look like flash on camera was used. See the image a previous student made in the upper left of the rubric. http://www.jnevins.com/digitalphotographyrubric.htm

-I'm also trying to get you to take control of the situation... Your models are animated in a way that speaks to their discomfort with being photographed. Your sister put on a smiley mask... the result is a snapshot, family album quality rather than truth and timelessness.

-Think about the head and body compositionally. Try holding the camera vertically, don't center the head in the frame, move in closer, use a 55mm focal length on your DSLR, throw the background more out of focus.
