Week 4-Shadows Continued and Week 5-Macro

I was so upset with how poorly my Shadow Series came out, when I went to do my Macro Series, I tried a few more times with shadows. I decided to focus on my used drum sticks. Each time they hit a cymbal, they get chipped away at. Needless to say I've gone through hundreds of sticks throughout my last two touring years but here is my most recently used, unbroken, pair. Below that you will find some Macro shots I took in my yard this past week.

  1. Not liking your shots is an excuse to go out shooting again. Photographers never just shoot a couple of shots and call it a day. That's like taking one swing at one pitch, having a strike then saying that's it... bad game. Your average working photographer shoots at least 500 shots each and every working day then edits them down to the very best...My minimum on each assignment to get good work you like is at least 50 shots... 500 would be better.

The wear and tear on your stick show you know that concept deep down. Hundreds of pairs of sticks is a testament to your seriousness at playing drums... nothing less is acceptable.

The baseball shot is clean and well composed...

  2. Hi Sal,
I absolutely love the picture with the baseball and glove! It's so crisp, and well positioned in the frame. I thought the shadow assignment was a bit challenging myself, and I wasn't too happy with the shots I took either, but we are learning, so be easy on yourself!

  3. Thanks professor, appreciate the insight! I've noticed as the class has progressed that instead of spending one day and taking only 40-50 pictures I've been shooting a couple of different days which usually equates to about 100-120 shots per assignment. Also, thank you for the kind words Alicia! I appreciate it! :)
